About PBJ
PBJ Management is the ultimate talent agency in the UK in that all its clients are supremely talented - they write; they act; they present; they sing; they compose; they jockey; they direct; all at the same time on a good day with the result that they make people laugh and other people cry. They tend not to dance all that well.
In the beginning...
The bespoke agency was set up in 1987 by Peter Bennett-Jones with two clients; the world renowned lighting designer Mark Henderson and a comic actor called Rowan Atkinson.
Struggling to keep up with this onerous workload, Peter (aka PBJ) subtly recruited Caroline Chignell (aka Chiggy) from his best friend, impresario Andre Ptaszynski. In acknowledgement of this act of piracy Andre was appointed a non exec. Director of the company. With this crack team of a lawyer manque and a biologist in place, new clients were added: Harry Enfield; Reeves and Mortimer; Howard Goodall; Lenny Henry; Chris Morris; Armando Iannucci; Barry Humphries; Eddie Izzard; Dylan Moran; The League of Gentlemen; Kit & The Widow; Sean Hughes; Dom Joly; Adam & Joe; Bill Bailey; Gina Yashere; Marc Wootton; Julia Morris; Tim Minchin; Lucy Montgomery; Tim FitzHigham and Anneka Rice.
Claire Stephens joined the company as an agent in 2001 with a brief to recruit new up-and-coming comedians such as Rob Rouse; Mark Dolan; Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding (aka The Mighty Boosh); Rhys Thomas; Glenn Wool and Sarah Kendall. We also manage other practioners of the comedic arts including broadcasters, writers, DJs, directors, producers and other high priests. The unifying factor is that they are all brilliant and great to work with.
Chiggy, PBJ and Claire are backed up by an impressively dedicated and experienced team of able Assistant Agents who are the primary point of contact. Jo Beasy, Jennifer Rhodes, Rebecca Turner, Karl Schmid, Patrick Bustin and Mary McCallum all play vital roles in ensuring that clients are given the best service in town. Every enquiry is met with respect, politeness and efficiency, be it the opening of a village fete or the offer of a major movie role. We are very proud of our artists and of their achievements.
To keep us on our toes and in order to giver a fuller service to our clients we have recently entered a joint venture with Gilbert Rozon of the legendary JUST FOR LAUGHS organisation to form a two-pronged business: JBJ MANAGEMENT and MICK PERRIN PRODUCTIONS for JFL, both LLP vehicles. JBJ operates under the able management of PBJ veteran Janette Linden working with talent spotter extraordinaire, Claire Nightingale. They will continue to work with Peter and Chiggy and their brief is to scour the Festivals and clubs to source and manage new talent, who will have the added benefit of having the Mick Perrin promotional machine and the JFL international Festival network at their disposal as part of the service. Only just up and running they have signed the hugely talented Fat Tongue and Arnab Chanda to the agency roster.
Bringing the best talent to you
We will continue to select clients with the utmost care, remain small and beautifully formed and build on our reputation of representing the very best creative talent working primarily in UK broadcasting and beyond.
Sister company KBJ Management runs on similar principles, primarily representing presenters.
Peter is also Chairman of Comic Relief and of leading production company Tiger Aspect, which is also housed in Soho Square, that epicentre of showbiz.
